Story
Hi. Thank you for taking the time to check out my Justgiving page :)
I am fundraising for Alzheimer's Society because I have unfortunately seen first hand how brutal the disease of dementia can really be.
I previously worked in an elderly residential home for 9 years. In this time, I had seen many individuals losing their memories, identity, sense of control and links with family members slowly piece by piece but evilly some individual's conditions decreased more rapidly. So therefore, the charity: Alzheimer's Society is really close to my heart and have decided to join the fight against dementia and stop the erasing of those precious memories.
But there is hope, as I also witnessed remarkable glimmers of re-connections with reality and the past combined, whether that be a certain word, saying, song or photograph that would unlock a particular emotion which suddenly brought back a vivid memory and to witness that expression on the individual's face even though possibly for only a couple minutes or even seconds, was a truly magical moment, a pure insight into their previous life like they were being briefly reborn.
MEMORIES ARE WHAT MAKE US!
