Story
UPDATE:
I finished the race in 4 hours, 8 minutes and 22 seconds. I'm sunburnt and can't walk properly, but otherwise I'm feeling great.
CLIC Sargent will be accepting donations until July, so please consider making a small contribution to help me further increase my fundraising total and support the tremendous work that they do!
Did I mention that I can't walk properly?
Right, this is my story. It's not a great story, but it's the only one I've got.
I’m running the 2014 Virgin Money London Marathon on Sunday 13th April and will be doing so to raise money for CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, and their families.
A cancer diagnosis is a frightening and distressing experience. The emotional, practical and financial implications of treatment are intensely challenging for any family.
Fortunately, there are some wonderful organizations, such as CLIC Sargent, that exist solely for the purpose of making life easier and better for families impacted by cancer.
In a nutshell, CLIC Sargent provide clinical, practical, financial and emotional support to help victims and their families cope with cancer and get the most out of life. The work that they do is truly amazing and really does make a difference. This is a very worthy cause indeed.
This is NOT my first marathon, it’s actually my eighth. As much as I’d like to make a big fuss about the colossal nature of the goal that lies ahead, it wouldn’t really be appropriate given that it’s a goal I’ve accomplished seven times already. What I CAN say with certainty is that this is the first time I have had the honour of being a part of the CLIC Sargent Running Team and for this reason, London 2014 will be the most important and meaningful marathon I’ve ever participated in.
As you’ve made it this far, I hope you will consider taking a couple of minutes out of your day to give CLIC Sargent (and me) your support. Every penny, cent, dollar, pound, euro etc helps. My goal is to raise £1800 ($2950). Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Thank you for your support - it means so much!
