Story

Dear friends,

Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedules to visit this donation page.

I know we see these pages week in, week out nowadays and that there are an awful lot of very worthwhile causes pleading for your help, but I hope that in the next few paragraphs I can explain to you why your donation will make such a big difference to our initiative.

Eye for India is a new charitable intiative set up by five Optometry graduates from City University London, with the intention of providing eye care to rural communities in India.

Our first project is a two week visit to Basanti, Sunderban (100km outside Calcutta) in September 2010, where we aim to conduct eye tests, give practical advice, and dispense refractive corrections to 1,000 underprivileged patients.

As ambitious as this may sound at first, we have all the necessary provisions in place - a building in which to conduct the tests, a team of willing volunteers from a nearby medical school, a local businessman who has agreed to supply us with spectacles, and - perhaps most importantly - the support and backing of nationally renowned oncologist and founder of the SDM Foundation Sri Samiran Das.

All we are missing now is the funds to make this project an overwhelming success. Please dig deep and give whatever you can, so that we can make a tangible difference to those who have had to live without the gift of clear vision - something that we all take for granted.

With every £2 raised, we can supply a pair of spectacles that will drastically improve an individual's quality of life.

Thankyou in advance for your kind donations; with your help I hope that Eye for India can become a real success and that our dream of staging an annual eye camp to help those less fortunate than ourselves will come to fruition.

I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Keval.
Eye for India was set up in association with the Department of Optometry and Visual Science at City University London and the Rotary Club of South Woodham Ferrers. We thank them for their continued support.
