My story

WE DID IT!!! :-)   (Ken 1hour 44mins and Gill 2hrs 27mins - but importantly without stopping!)

When the going got tough (at about 11miles) it really helped to know that we had people rooting for us and of course just thinking about the animals kept our feet moving.  It was an incredible day despite the heat and the sore legs we really 'enjoyed' the experience.

As many of you know Animals Asia Foundation is a unique organisation which through it's pioneering programmes is making massive improvements to the lives of animals across Asia.

Lives like Jasper's who was incarcerated in a tiny cage no bigger than his body for 15 years, never feeling the sun on his back or the touch of the grass under his paws.  This was reality for him on a bear farm in China having his bile taken daily for traditional Chinese medicine via a dirty rusty catheter, that was until he was rescued by AAF.  I am delighted to say Jasper now enjoys everyday with his friends sunbathing or swimming in his pool at our Sanctuary in China...   For thousands of other bears though the horrors of the bear bile farm is still a brutal reality. 

It is hard to believe that such animal cruelty is allowed to take place.  Many Chinese people feel as horrified as we do when the learn about the atrocities happening in their own country.  There is a growing number of Chinese people owning dogs and cats as companion animals, experiencing like many of us their unconditional love.   

Imagine then how it feels to have your dog or cat was stolen, destined for the meat markets.  Knowing that they would likely to suffer horrific death, boiled alive or electrocuted infront of one another!!  Or as is happening at the moment, dogs are being bludgeoned to death by the police authorities before owners eyes in response to a recent rabies outbreak. 

Across China, Animals Asia Foundation is working with the Chinese government and local Chinese animal welfare groups in a bid to stop this brutality and put animal welfare and management tools in place.
