On the 12th of July I am going to trek up Mount Kilimanjaro along with other students from Newcastle University. At 5,895 metres Kilimanjaro is not only Africa's highest peak, it is also the highest freestanding mountain in the world.
The charity I am climbing for is called comerades of children overseas(COCO). COCO works closely with local community organisations in poor countries where the people living there don't want handouts, but want the opportunity to trnasform their lives as well as their families lives. COCO is working with some of the world’s most vulnerable children in an attempt to give them the opportunity not only to survive, but also to strive towards a healthier, happier and more fruitful way of life. Some money that is donated will be used to climb kilimanjaro, however most is given to COCO to fund their projects to providea brighter future for poorer children.
£5 feeds a child one meal a day for a year £10 buys a school desk that three children sit at £15 pays for counseling for orphaned and abandoned children £25 pays for one member of staff at children’s home £30 can feed six children everyday for a year £100 pays for a child to attend secondary school for 1 year!
