Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.

I originally Started fundraising a few years ago in memory of my grandfather and friend Andy (see www.justgiving.com/peru2007) and was going to do the Peru 2007 trek. Unfortunately life managed to get in the way and I wasn't able to do the trek SO to earn all of the generous donations you all gave (an amazing £3100!) as well as try and raise a little more for Macmillan cancer support I'll be undertaking one of the biggest challenges of my life! I'm going to run the Flora London Marathon on the 13th of April 2008!

Macmillan was such a great help and support all through the year of my grandfather's illness. Not only to him but to my grandmother and all of the family. We knew that there was support and advice there whenever we needed it and I know for a fact we wouldn't have coped without them. So please help support the hard work of this fantastic charity and sponser me (and my sore legs!) today!

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Macmillan Cancer Support will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support.

Training update!

Training continues through the wet and coldness of winter! My 2 hours 15 min time for the great scottish run half marathon inspires me that this marathon is actually possible!! If you see me out and about Anniesland/Maryhill/Bearsden huffing and puffing give me a shout of encouragement! Tips and tricks gratefully accepted!

So running training with a hangover might not have been the best idea! We were out for dinner and drinks last night for my birthday and woke up this morning feeling a little rough! "Stop being soft and get out there!" were the words that rang through my head! I managed 10K (in 43 mins) and decided that was a sufficient effort! Back to the normal half marathon or more this weekend! Well, in between Xmas shopping and a visit from my Mum! Surely running around the shops counts as training?

23/01/08

So now that Xmas, New Year and the house move are all firmly out of the way I have officially run out of excuses not to train! So even the bad weather didn't put me off as I've joined the gym and started treadmill training twice a week with a long road run at the weekend. I am starting to feel like it's just a little bit more possible that I'll complete this without dying afterwards! Thanks so much to those who have sponsored me!

I did my longest ever training run yesterday, 16.5 miles. It suddenly dawned on me how hard this is really going to be...just 10 more miles everyone keeps telling me...could someone convince my aching legs that they are not in fact going to drop off and that they should quit complaining and get on with it please?!

A big shout out to all the people at the Beatson Labs for their kind support. It's a real motivator knowing that people are interested in your progress (and the donations are much appreciated too!). So a big thankyou to you all. Training is painful...literally! Between chaffing and bleeding nipples (lesson don't wear a cotton T-shirt in the rain!) it is slowly removing the top layer of my body! But 16.7 miles in 2 and a half hours (walking the final half hour!) is pretty good and I'm convinced that I'll be able to do the marathon in less than 5 hours (in theory!). I'm running on sheer determination at times but am definitely getting a kick out the fact that my body shape is improving as a result! Nothing like burning 2300 calories in one go to help you shape up!

08/04/08

So the marathon is this sunday! Wow that's kinda crept up on me! I'm just in from the gym and my final training session before th big day...scary scary thought! I have to admit though I do feel ready! My last road run was amazing I've never enjoyed running so much! That feeling of complete freedom and the adrenaline! Wow! Training this morning went well too! I'm going to do this...whether it's running, walking or crawling I will finish! Under 5 hours would be nice but just being able to say I've done is a major life ambition completed. Thanks for everyone's support and help along the way, macmillan do so many great things and I'm really appreciative to everyone for supporting the cause. Wish me luck!

24/04/08

Just a quick note to say I did it in 4 hours 50! 10 mins under my target time! VERY proud! I hadn't realised quite how much of a mental battle it is as well as a physical one! Thank you so much to you all for your kind support! I'm still collecting donations for Macmillan through this site for another 50 days so anyone who still wants to sponsor me can still do so! Once again thanks to you all!
