Wow! How often does a great opportunity like this come up?

The Fire Fighters Charity helps and supports the many fire service personnel who are injured all over the UK every year protecting us, our homes, our workplaces and the environment.

The Ladies Driving Challenge held on 3rd July 2010 at Sellafield in Cumbria gives you the chance to donate to a brilliant cause by sponsoring me for successfully driving some seriously LARGE vehicles...

I drove...

A Fire Engine

A Doubledecker Bus

An Articulated Lorry with trailer and without

A Tractor

A Fork Lift Truck

A JCB

and operated that BIG CRANE!

You can support our wonderful fire fighters because this page is still open for donations.

I had a wonderful day - full of thrills and no spills, not even one toppled road cone. The weather was brilliant, the instructors were marvellous, and the kids even got to ride in the cab of an artic (driven by a qualified driver, not Mum!).

I'm 55 years old and had only ever driven one vehicle larger than my little Ford Fiesta - my partner's Land Rover (all of 500 yards in first gear)!  He'll have to watch out now - after driving the fire engine through those narrow gaps and reversing the bus into a smallish "garage" space, I'll be borrowing the Landy more often!

It was a REAL CHALLENGE - I could only just see over the steering wheel on the artic, and those big steering wheels and big steps up to the cabs left a few aches the next day - but I'd love to do it again!

Now, how about one of those big mining haul trucks next time...

Big thanks to everyone who has donated so far!
