Century Cycle Challenge 2013 · 14 April 2013

We have funded over 100 research projects tackling many forms of cancer. In 2012 we opened a dedicated clinical trials centre at Leicester Royal Infirmary to offer patients access to new medicines and therapies. We also fund two nurses who add to the care and support trials patients receive.

Story

The TEAM:  Emma Jefferson, Ginny Bowman, Alicia Leaf, Sophie Clarke, Clare Bostock, Sophie Bridgwood, Sian Farmer, Philly Jones. We've joined together to raise money for Lymphoma, a blood cancer which can affect anyone at any age.  Two friends have recently been diagnosed with Lymphoma.

Hope Against Cancer have set up a fellowship in both Nicola and David's name to fund specific research lead by Professor Martin Dyer, targeting cell division in Lymphomas and the effects of chemotherapy on cancer cells against healthy cells.  Professor Dyer is the consultant treating both Dave and Nicola.

Nicola Holden, developed non Hodgkins Lymphoma cancer last December. Nicola went into hospital on the 28th December and has  just been allowed home after spending 15 weeks in hospital. Nicola is 44 and has 2 children, Megan 14 and Connor 17.

Dave Herbert developed Hodgkins Lymphoma at almost exactly the same time as Nicola.  Dave has has just become a member of the Queens Counsel, having been a barrister for over 10 years.  He is 45  and has 2 children, Gabriella and Harry.
