When the sun goes down the working day ends for millions of people without electricity. At the flick of a switch, lives can be instantly changed with a solar light. SolarAid wants to make real, sustainable change happen.

Story

Oh what a year 2009 is shaping up to be!

Lady P, with her knobbly knees, is calling in her favours and asking you to remember the times she has sponsored you and asks for your pennies, pounds and dollars to help raise money for two amazing charities.

WHO?
SolarAid is the charity I've been working with for over a year - I convinced The Big Bank to give up £1.3m and now I ask you to help me raise as much as I can to bring clean energy to rural Africa.  I'll be spending three months working with them in Kenya this year so all your pennies will go to the projects and help SolarAid reach their goal of getting one million solar lamps into East Africa.  You can find out more about projects at www.solar-aid.org.

WHAT?
It's not big or clever but I'll be running the Reading Half marathon at the end of March - which, given my training regime of red wine and the occasional lunge for a plate of chips, could be the end of me.  But if that doesn't inspire you, then I'll be climbing Mt Kilimanjaro in August - if Chris Moyles can do it, so can I!

WHY?
Well The Big Bank is going to match every penny I raise, the other half of the money will go to the Festival Branch of the Samaritans for Ben.  Ben was my boyfriend for over two years and died a month ago due to cancer.  So I'm raising money on his behalf; because he was who he was and because I miss him already.  Find out more at www.festivalsamaritans.org.

I really do appreciate every penny, so thank you for your support, however big or small. nx
