Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
The challenge:
This September I have decided to run 2 half-marathons that are within 2 weeks of each other. The first being The Great North Run in Newcastle which is the biggest half-marathon in the world with over 56,000 people taking part this year! This is taking place on the 15th September.
The second Half Marathon I am undertaking is the Robin Hood Half-Marathon in Nottingham which skirts the City Centre, encompasses the beautiful grounds of University of Nottingham and takes in views of the river Trent. This takes place on the 29 September, exactly two weeks after the GNR.
Me:
For the people who don’t know (which I doubt is many as I like to complain about it!) I have recently had an Anterior Crutiate Ligament reconstruction in my left knee. I ruptured my ligament in August 2012 and, having had the operation in March 2013, I won’t have been unable to run and participate in sport for almost 10 months. This gives me only 2 months to prepare for this challenge!
The intensity of this challenge for me is very high. I chose it as I thought it would be a good goal for my rehabilitation and alongside that, a great way to raise much needed funds for an amazing charity!
Macmillan Cancer support:
Having previously ran the GNR for Macmillan, I can honestly say that the enthusiasm and support they gave me at each cheer point was unbelievable. From that experience I can only imagine the amazing support that they provide for people affected by cancer.
This support is greatly needed as 1 in 3 of us will get cancer. Macmillan provide practical, medical and financial support whilst also pushing for better cancer care. They help with everything that people affected by cancer want and need. They also help carers, families and communities and guide them through the system. They fund nurses and other specialist health care professionals and build cancer care centres.
Macmillan Cancer Support are a great cause to get behind as nearly 98% of their income in 2011 came from voluntary giving and fundraising.
Any donations, no matter how big or small, are greatly appreciated by myself and Macmillan!
Thank you!
