My story

VANGO LANDS' END > JOHN O'GROATS > ABERDEEN

As many of you know we are very keen cyclists and have been itching to do the British end-to-end run for quite some time.

Commencing on the 27th July 2009, Duncan and I will be embarking from Lands' End, Cornwall and skirting our way through England, Wales and Scotland arriving in John O'Groats 9 days later with a total mileage of nearly 1000miles, an additonal three days will take us back home to Aberdeen increasing teh total to nearly 1300miles. We will be fully self supported and camping along the way (no posh B and B's for us....the more money we save the more we can donate.)

I shall be cycling in aid of Lochaber Mountain Rescue, whilst Duncan will be fundraising for Cancer Research UK. Scottish Mountain Rescue is often somewhat overlooked but who offer an invalueable service to hikers, climbers and many outdoor enthusiasts. Completely supported by a voluntary workforce on call 365 days a year they solely rely on public donations, and give up their free time to ensure the safety of others.

We will also be hosting a fundraiser in Aberdeens Bon Accord Shopping Centre on the 18th July (the week prior to departure) where we will be setting up some turbo trainers and trying to reach a set mileage (125 -150 miles) in about 6 hours. We also wanted to support a local cancer charity so this is in aid of CLAN, a cancer charity service Aberdeen, the north East and Orkney and Shetland.

There is also efforts to change the law so that charities of similiar merits do not have to pay tax on equipment that aids their general running. Currently SMR pays over £100,000 each year soley in tax for equipment, fuel and necessaties, whereas other emergency services have it waviered. We would like to express our thanks to Vango who have provided camping equipment for our little excursion, we would also like to highlight their charitable activities that they do for ShelterBox by providing hundreds of 10 man tents to those who become homeless from natural disasters.

If you feel you can donate both the Lochaber Mountain Rescue and us would be most grateful and as I hope you will agree it is a very worthy cause.

If you decide to donate please ensure that you tick the Gift Aid box, as UK taxpayers entitles an extra 25% and a 3% supplement is added to the grand total.

Thank-You for your support
