I have decided now is the time to walk the South West Coast Path. I am walking it in memory of my dad for charity. It is a 630 mile walk from Minehead to Poole following the stunning coastline. I have made myself jobless and homeless so that there is no going back when the going gets tough. I have sold most of my possessions at boot fairs to raise a shoe string budget that will see me sleeping in a bivi bag most nights for approx 8 weeks. It will also be a good way to lose the extra stone in weight I have gained since giving up running 6 months ago! The charity I want to raise money for is The Motor Neurone Disease Association (www.mndassociation.org). It is a cause close to my heart as my dad died from the disease when I was a teenager. It is a horrific and slow way to die. It took several years from first symptoms, when he reversed the car into a tree stump to finally succumbing to pneumonia once he was bed ridden. My dad had been a very fit, active and intelligent army man (he was a desert rat in WW2) and it was devastating and frustrating for him to be all there mentally but lose the ability to write, walk, talk and the final humiliation was becoming doubly incontinent and not being able to feed himself.
