The Greyhound Trust was founded in 1975, since then we are proud to have found over 85,000 loving homes for greyhounds. Each year, we home about 4,000 retired racing greyhounds and help hundreds more, but there are many more that still need us. All money goes directly to helping our hounds.

Story

<p class="iphone-update"><em><span style="color: #0000ff;">Afraid I gave up on the iPhone!</span></em></p> <p class="iphone-update"><em><span style="color: #0000ff;">Saturday&nbsp;was a struggle and I'll admit&nbsp;there were tears.&nbsp;Fortunately I had the sense to extract off the moor and come along the&nbsp;lanes&nbsp;- Dartmoor is like swimming with sharks - exciting and beautiful but don't take unnecessary risks and treat with respect!&nbsp;As I'd been so unlucky with the weather&nbsp;some of the planned bridlepaths&nbsp;had become&nbsp;bogs and I&nbsp;wasn't going to lose&nbsp;the last pair of shoes. &nbsp;Princetown was a very welcome sight (and the medicinal rums to relax the muscles were fab). </span></em></p> <p class="iphone-update"><em><span style="color: #0000ff;">Woke up totally fired upu on Sunday and headed out into the mist&nbsp;at Princetown at 7am as I've done the route past Ingra Tor a fair few times and was confident I wouldn't get lost. Hound of the Baskerville's gave me a wide berth (think Bruce had 'had a word' in advance) and was at Meavy before I knew it. </span></em></p> <p class="iphone-update"><em><span style="color: #0000ff;">The Plym valley trail was amazing although the blisters were really kicking in.&nbsp; Mum and Dad (who have been an excellent support team all weeked) met me in the Plymbridge car park and after a final sock change I ploughed on.&nbsp; Gave everyone a bit of a shock when they discovered I was at the Aquarium already but was hurting and just wanted to get it over with. </span></em></p> <p class="iphone-update"><em><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Huge thank you to everyone who came up to the Hoe to meet me - and everyone who sponsored me.&nbsp; Cannot express how grateful I am. Soggy but not completely broken</em>!</span></p> <p class="iphone-update">Updated on Aug 26th 2011 at 10:49 AM from the JustGiving API:<span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>About an hour behind and down 1 pair of shoes which are stuck in mud at Bideford!</em></span></p> <p><span style="color: #000000;">In memory of my beloved hound Bruce&nbsp;I will be walking 70 miles&nbsp;between Westward Ho&nbsp;and Plymouth Hoe&nbsp;via Dartmoor***&nbsp;on the August Bank Holiday weekend to raise money to help other&nbsp;dogs like Bruce find their forever home.</span></p> <p><span style="color: #000000;">The Retired Greyhound Trust works to find homes for greyhounds once their racing careers have finished.&nbsp;</span></p> <p><span style="color: #000000;">Bruce was much loved by all who knew him and I feel this is a fitting way to honour his memory -&nbsp;whilst he'd never have managed the 70&nbsp; miles himself, being built for speed and not endurance, the page is called last walk with Bruce as being ex&nbsp;'mad woman with dog' I'll be carrying his ashes with me.</span></p> <p><em><span style="color: #3366ff;">***route change to reverse direction&nbsp;thanks to someone with far more common sense than me!</span></em></p>
