Story

Thanks for visiting my page.

On 25th October 2021 we attended my maternal grandfathers funeral;  he had suffered with heart conditions for many years (7 stents, pace maker, heart failure). In donations at his funeral we raised £500 for BHF. 3 days later in the early hours of 28th October my mum was taken into hospital with chest pains where within hours she’d had a stent fitted and was on the mend. Devastatingly it wasn’t to be and she suffered a cardiac arrest later that day that she couldn’t be resuscitated from. My mum was just 61 with 7 young grandchildren who adored her and now have to grow up without her.

On 3rd February, just before her 5th birthday, Amber was rushed into A&E with an extreme fluctuating heart rate and when they got her on the heart monitor she was nearing 300BPM. After 4 hours and a series of critical interventions she was moved to Children's ICU but after 6 stable hours her heart rate started rising again and we were back to critical interventions once more. Following a move to Paediatric Cardiology and on starting what will now be permanent oral medication she stabilised and after 4 days she was discharged having been diagnosed with a condition called SVT. The BHF leaflet provided on this proved extremely helpful to understand the condition!

Thinking we had suffered enough tragedy proved fruitless however and on the 21st February my Nana (mum’s Mum) passed away in her sleep. It turns out she had suffered an Aortic Rupture and so another family member was lost to a heart condition. Losing so many of my family in just 5 months all to heart conditions has just been devastating and having Amber so poorly was terrifying but it has made me all the more determined to fundraise for the BHF and hopefully prevent other families suffering the same as we have.

As always I will be joined by my trusty fundraising partner Ky whose own Grandad has had more than his fair share of heart problems down the line. So please give generously and help us meet our fundraising goal to spur us on up those mountains (and please pray for good weather for us!)

I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation and I'd be so grateful for your support. The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target. Thanks!
