Everest Base Camp · 2 April 2010

Diabetes UK is the charity leading the fight against the UK's devastating and fastest growing health crisis, working to create a world where diabetes can do no harm. It’s a fight that involves all of us – sharing knowledge and taking diabetes on together. Join us.

Story

Everest is the world’s highest mountain, and in April 2010 I am going to attempt to climb to Base Camp!!

I am doing this trip for a number of reasons, firstly to raise money for Diabetes UK. I have pledged to raise a minimum of £3550 for the charity.

Having lived with type 1 (insulin dependent) diabetes for 16 years I know how important research is to further our understanding of the condition, and so helping to raise more funds is one way I can personally contribute.

Living with diabetes is a challenge and many people don’t realise the impact it has on a person’s every day life. Having grown up with it through my teens and into adulthood it has taken much strength and perseverance to come to terms with the difficulties and the effect it has on my life.

For me, participating in this trip will help prove to myself that diabetes does not have to control my life and stop me from pursuing my dreams. The challenge of coping with this enduring trek and controlling my diabetes will help strengthen my own confidence in my condition and hopefully raise lots of money to help support ongoing research into diabetes.

I will be in the wonderful hands of Charity Challenge, through whom I have arranged this trip. They are a reputable company who offer experiences for people to challenge themselves in the name of charity.

Your contribution towards this challenge goes directly to Diabetes UK, and you can be assured that every penny raised is most gratefully received and really will make a difference.

Fundraising Update!! 15/11/09

Thank you to every one who has donated online. I am starting to get towards my target : )

I held a very successful Cake Off! at work, where by staff entered cakes into a competition, and those who attended paid an entry fee. Everyone enjoyed sampling the different cakes, with a tea and coffee, and then voted on the best tasting cake and the best looking cake. We raised £150!

It was a delicious, fun way to start off my fundraising freenzy!

The lengths that some people will go to raise money never fails to suprise me. No less so than my gorgeous Andy, who bravely attempted the leg wax! Keep checking this page as coming soon is the proof on film for you to see and laugh!!

The next event I am holding is a Coffee Morning and Book Fair back home at Treborth on 5th December. The greenhouses will be open, there will be lots of coffee morning treats to enjoy, books to be bought and some seasonal crafts to purchase. Hopefully it will be another successful fundraising event!

I have reached my target!!!!!! Thanks to the success of our Ceilidh last night, and the many students from Bangor University who enjoyed the evening, I have reached my target. It was a great evening of music and dancing, and much fun was had by all. Thank you to all who were involved with it, and who came along.

So whats next? Well im still planning a few more fundraising events so will hopefully have a few more pennies to add to the total, so keep an eye on that widget!!
