EDSA supports the advancement of education and relief of poverty of children and young people living in urban or rural townships as the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and crime, the abiding legacy of apartheid. We support creative and innovative projects and progression onto training/work.

Story

Thanks for visiting our justgiving page! We are a mother and daughter team, Jane and Laura (13... no, 14 now!!) aiming to raise money for the life-changing educational work EDSA supports in South Africa. We will be cycling 500km and visiting some of the projects. Without the extra help of, for example, Saturday schools young people from the townships still can't reach higher education, which offers the prospect of escape from poverty. One student wrote: 'Saturday School is the key to my future'.

This will be a considerable physical challenge for us both (and Jane's rebuilt left leg); we have given up buying books and clothes to make our personal contribution. Which is not easy!

Please support EDSA's work by sponsoring us. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is the most efficient way to sponsor us: Education for Democracy in South Africa will receive your money faster and if you are a UK taxpayer an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Thanks for your help,

Jane Harrison and Laura Bowlby
