100km Namibian Desert Challenge? What was I thinking!!
100km trek through Namibia's remote wilderness, over 4.5 days, camping in 2 man tents with only basic facilities, i.e NO showers and responsible for purifying own drinking water! Tough, but I'm told exhilarating, suffering hot hot hot temperatures and reaching physical, emotional and mental limits.
Why do this? Not only for a personal challenge, but for the Fredericks Foundation a UK charity helping disadvantaged people, who find it difficult or impossible to obtain financial support through regular channels. The charity itself has one of the lowest overhead rates of any charity and has a 75-85% payback on the money it loans, meaning not only the projects its supports are thriving and their owners gain real independence / renewed confidence, but that donations it receives are recycled over and over again.
When will this happen? 18th - 26th Sept 2009...yes that means a good few months of hard vigorous training. 100km is going to be tough!
