My story

 
After researching and living in Latin America for over 12 years, it is Laura's strong conviction that the region's socio-economic condition will improve only by first helping the most vulnerable. (Currently, Laura volunteers at Education for the Children by translating children’s letters to sponsors from Spanish to English). Giving even the smallest donation of money creates an avalanche of change in the trajectory of incredibly impoverish children. It could literally save a life.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Education For The Children Foundation gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

The stated aims of the Education for the Children are:
  • 'to advance the education of children in Central America by the provision of schools, schools equipment and teaching personnel.'
      'to relieve the poverty and sickness of children who are educated by the foundation, together with their families, by the provision of shelter, amenities, facilities and equipment, in any such charitable way as the charity trustees determine.'
         

        The first project of the foundation was to support a small school in the town of Antigua, Guatemala.

        The school was established in 1992. It was supported entirely by volunteer donations, and was set up to educate children from families too poor to send their children to state school, this requires the families to pay for the provision of books, materials and school uniform. Although this may not seem a lot the cost is often almost half of some family's income per child!
