I will be taking part (running very slowly with large bouts of walking and despairing) in the Great North Run 2008 for Traidcraft. Some of you may remember that I was meant to do this run last year, but unfortunately had to pull out just two weeks before the race, due to my fascist foot (don't ask).
So this year I have been training hard but this time more sensibly, and I enjoyed taking part in the Great Manchester Run in May, and the Great Yorkshire Run in September. So this year I WILL be running in the Great North Run, I have been taking extra care not to get injured (there have been some close calls whilst playing active sports like bowling on the Wii) but fingers (and toes) crossed my feet will remain a modern, healthy democracy come Sunday October 5th 2008.
I know that it will be extremely gruelling and painful to complete the race, but I know it will be worth it, because not only does finishing a run earn me a great sense of achievement, but because this is all for a great and worthy cause, that is giving people across the world a fair chance of lifting themselves out of poverty. Plus it's a great excuse to eat lots of carbohydrates.
