*** UPDATE ***
Well, I'm pleased to say that I did it! I cycled the Canadian Rockies! It was not a holiday. It was a tough challenge, both physically AND mentally, but I did it. No getting off to push the bike half way up a hill, no getting in the van - I cycled the whole thing...every big hill (including the very aptly named 'Big Hill'!), every long slow climb, and in all weathers too. For 5 days I cycled...and I'm not ashamed to say it was the hardest thing I've ever done...but it gave the greatest sense of achievement to know that I did it. The scenery was beautiful, and my fellow cyclists were fabulous, but the thing that kept me going was knowing that I was raising money for Marie Curie Cancer Care. Whilst 'Big Hill' was evidently on all our minds, the day we cycled to Lake Louise and then on up to Lake Morraine was the most emotional for me. A very physically and mentally demanding day in which I was in tears as I cycled the last section up to Lake Louise - it was tough, there's no denying it, but the thought of what those with cancer, especially terminal cancer, and their families go through, both had me in tears and kept me going, along with the knowledge of the work that Marie Curie Cancer Care nurses do and how that makes such a difference to people in their final days.
If you have already sponsored me, thank you! Every £20 raised will pay for one hour of Marie Curie nursing, in the home or in hospices across the UK. If you haven't sponsored me already, please consider doing so, you can donate from as little as £2 on this website but please give as much as you can. Please also forward my justgiving link to friends, colleagues and family...anyone you think might like to support Marie Curie Cancer Care. It's such a worthwhile charity.
Thank you,

Marie Curie Cancer Care Canadian Rockies Cycle Challenge
20th June - 27th June 2009
Last year I cycled 621km in 6 days from Warsaw, in Poland, to Vilnius, in Lithuania, to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care as part of the Bike the Baltic Cycle Challenge...and lived to tell the tale!
As well as raising over £3000 for Marie Curie I discovered a love of cycling! So this year, I’m back on my bike for an even bigger challenge...The Canadian Rockies!
I have been told that this is "the ultimate cycling challenge". With altitudes reaching up to 2,055m against a backdrop of breathtaking scenery, it will require both endurance and strength.
I must be mad! However, the money I raise will help Marie Curie Cancer Care to continue providing this great, high quality nursing care, at home or in their hospices, totally free to terminally ill people, to support them and their loved ones. For further information on Marie Curie Cancer Care, please go to www.mariecurie.org.uk
A donation of £20 pays for one of hour of nursing care by a Marie Curie Nurse. Please dig deep and give what you can - every little bit helps and it really is a worthy cause.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Marie Curie Cancer Care gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now...and please encourage friends, colleagues and family to sponsor me too. :o)
Many thanks for visiting my fundraising page!
