Down's South London is family-founded organisation which was set up in 1998 by some highly enterprising parents in Peckham who were not satisfied that their children with Down's Syndrome were receiving the appropriate level of speech and language therapy. Today, Down's South London is a thriving member-run organisation which provides speech therapy to some 35 children from birth to 10 years old, has a waiting list of a similar length, and has a catchment area ranging from Richmond and Kingston-upon-Thames to Greenwich and Blackheath. It is funded entirely by the ongoing fundraising activities of its members and supporters, and provides services and support to children and their parents which is not readily available anywhere else in South London, even in the private sector.
