Update: I completed the run in 1 hour 11 mins and 35 seconds and raised a total of £1,220 including my company's matching donation.   Thanks again for all your very kind donations and  wonderful support.

I've decided to run the Southend 10k Classic to raise money for a wonderful local charity -  Fairhavens Hospice (please read left hand side - "About our Charity"). 

You may know that earlier this year,  I  also set myself a target of losing 3 stone  in time for my 40th birthday in November.   This may have been over optimisitic - current total (Aug 09) is 17 llbs, however I am on target for 2 stone instead.   After an absence from running of  2 years, and only ever having run 5k -  both goals are quite a challenge for me.    I'm determined to put in a good amount of training - and finish in a respectable time.
