Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
In June 2006, I will be embarking upon a trek up Kilimanjaro with 24 of my work colleagues to raise money for RAISA - a charity which provides effective prevention, treatment, care and advocacy for people affected by HIV and AIDS in Africa.
By climbing the highest mountain in Africa (5896m), we aim to raise awareness of Africa's biggest problem. By the end of 2003, 12m children living in Sub-Saharan Africa had been orphaned by the HIV/AIDs pandemic, and a further 25.4m men, women and children live with the disease - that's the equivalent of 40% of the UK population.
I am attempting to raise £5000 towards our group total of £100,000. This money, your money, will pay for 7 fully trained VSO volunteers to live and work in affected communities for a full year, where they will provide invaluable support to and develop the skills of governments, businesses and NGOs, helping them in turn to support the millions of African citizens and their relatives who are already infected. Please dig deep and give as much as you can - 50p helps £50 saves lives - it's that simple. Many thanks for your support - Laura Remember: If you are a UK taxpayer, please ensure you select the Gift Aid checkbox when you place your donation. This will ensure that an extra 28% is added to your donation by the Inland Revenue at no extra cost to you.
