Story
Lauren Jones
The story of tragic teenager Lauren Jones, who fell from a tree breaking her spine, has touched people across Sussex. The brave 14 year old of Worthing has been positive since being told she will never walk again, just two days after impressing in trials with Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club.
Lauren is now in Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Buckinghamshire for rehabilitation following two operations. Lauren's parents Sue and Mike have said that they have been amazed at Lauren's positive attitude to her situation. In addition, they have received so many cards from friends and wellwishers in their community.
The Argus Appeal, the charity of The Argus daily newspaper, is launching a campaign to raise funds for the specialist sports wheelchair that Lauren will need. It is expected that the cost of the wheelchair will be in the region of £17,000. As Lauren grows, so will the need to upgrade the chair. This will be a long haul challenge for her parents and no doubt her home will need adapting, again costing many thousands of pounds.
The Argus and its charity The Argus Appeal are asking its readers and supporters to help Lauren by donating as much or as little as you can to buy her first specialist wheelchair.
