Thanks so much for getting this far!
I'm going to run a half-marathon on Sunday 27th September for an amazing charity called Tearfund, and I'll be so grateful if you could sponsor me.
Tearfund works all around the world with about 100,000 local church partners trying to bring real change to people's lives. The charity has a ten-year aim to see 50 million people around the world released from poverty. Tearfund has a finger in every pot, from being pioneers of Traidcraft (providing excellent craft work created by workers who are paid a fair wage) to campaigning on the world stage against global climate change that seriously affects the silent millions around the world, to providing disaster relief, to helping communities through local churches.
It's the fact that Tearfund works with local churches that inspires me, as this means that this is not a hit-and-run project, but one that has longevity and is work performed by local people. This is not politics or power grabbing but real work that means, for example that children in a village in Uganda can go to primary shcool and not drop out because of lack of proper sanitation in their village.
I plan to give whatever I raise towards the water and sanitation arm of Tearfund because water is something I take for granted, and almost 1 billion people around the world don't.
Example of how your donation can be spent:
Kenya
£8 could pay for 5 people to excavate a water dam for a day.
£15 could provide seed storage for drought preparation.
£25 could provide plenty of seeds for fuller orchards and fields.
£50 could provide tools for two farmers.
£100 could train and set up a community animal health worker.
£250 could protect a well from animals keeping the water clean and safe.
So please give generously. I will email in the next two months to let you know how the training is going (I'm a little scared!) and will hopefully put up some photos of the event.
