Leander loses his luscious locks
This is Molly Treves, she is 7yrs old and a survivor of childhood cancer Neuroblastoma.
When Molly was 2yrs old, she was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma. This is a common childhood cancer however, it is hard to diagnose. Molly was given a slim chance of survival by the Doctors at Great Ormond Street.
She had 8 courses of chemotherapy to shrink the tumours and prepare her body for a stem cell transplant. Following this she had 7 hours of surgery to remove the tumour which originated from her left kidney. Shortly after Christmas 2005 Molly had high dose chemotherapy to wipe out her immune system. She then had her stem cell transplant followed by 13 doses of radiotherapy at University College Hospital.
After nearly 9 months of intensive treatment, Molly was able to return home. She continued to receive oral retinoic acid at home for 8 months before being classed as in remission.
Throughout her illness, Molly and her family were supported by Clic Sargent Nurses and Social Worker. They provided medical care, emotional and financial support. Without this wonderful support, Molly would have had to spend even more time in Hospital. Clic Sargent allows families more time at home together whenever possible.
Molly has now been in remission for 3 and a half years. Although she now has severe hearing loss due to the chemotherapy and poor kidney function she is doing well.
Her cousin Leander is now about to shave off his luscious locks for this wonderful charity. He would love you to support him to raise as much money as possible for Clic Sargent. This will allow them to keep providing an excellent support for the families of children with cancer.
