Alzheimer's Society - Ben Nevis Challenge · 18 May 2012 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Dementia is caused by diseases of the brain and can affect anyone. There are currently over 750,000 people with dementia in the UK, and this figure will rise to over 1 million by 2025.

Dementia is terminal and there is no cure. One in three people over 65 will die with dementia.

Alzheimer's Society supports people to live well with dementia today and funds research to find a cure for tomorrow. They rely on voluntary donations to continue vital work.

As a radiographer, I meet people who live with Alzheimer's every day and feel like we can do more to help and support them.

So, in May this year, myself and Tash Benson will be trekking up Ben Nevis (the tallest mountain in the UK, I will have you know! 4,409 feet (1343m) to be exact) in order to raise some cash for the Alzheimer's Society. We are definitely going to struggle, so rest assured it will be a challenge!

So please give generously! Here is what your money could buy...

·         £5 could pay for one person to attend a half hour session at a monthly Dementia Café, providing information and support for people with dementia and their carers.

·         £20 could pay for 100 copies of Understanding and respecting the person with dementia - one of the Society's most requested factsheets.

·         £50 could fund a PhD researcher for one day to continue vital research into understanding the causes of dementia, how it can be treated and, ultimately, to find a cure.

·         £120 could pay to run Talking Point for one day - the Society's 24/7 online community for all people affected by dementia.

Thanks for looking at my fundraising page and a bigger thank you if you donated!
