As many of you will know we lost our beautiful daughter Amelie to a medulloblastoma brain tumour on Saturday 21st February 2009. She was diagnosed in early October at Musgrove Park Hospital following a few days of vomiting and unsteadiness on her feet. Immediately she was rushed to Frenchay hospital where she had an emergency operation to drain fluid from her brain, in preparation for a 12 hour operation 2 days later to remove the tumour. This operation was a total success with the whole tumour being removed. Sadly the tumour had already spread to the meninges in her brain and down her spinal cord. A week later she started chemotherapy to try to combat this. Unfortunately the first two cycles of chemotherapy didn't work at all and allowed the cancer to spread further, so we changed to a different protocol. This held the cancer but didn't reduce it in any way so in January the doctors told us it was incurable, a week after our second daughter Beatrice was born. We returned home and spent three wonderful weeks with our two beautiful girls, before Amelie's cancer overcame her and she passed away peacefully in our bed with us by her side. Throughout her treatment Amelie showed great strength and courage, never losing her sense of humour although she lost her ability to walk immediately after the operation, and the majority of her speech during the last two months of her life. She smiled her great big beautiful smile until the end, and gave us great happiness. We have lost the light of our lives and are heartbroken, but find peace in knowing she is better and without suffering. Please be generous in giving to this charity which will help to fund research into curing this horrendous disease.

About the charity

Maureen Doolin sadly lost her only son William on the 20 October 2006 to a brain tumour (medulloblastoma). William was only 10 years and 10 months old. Maureen and her family are determined to make sure that William's death was not in vain and have set up an umbrella group within the charity to help us with our fight to find a cure.
