Story
In 1911, Douglas Macmillan watched his father die from cancer, a slow and painful death. His legacy was to set up Macmillan Nurses who specialise in providing support and help to people with cancer, their families and carers.
Many of our team over the years have lost family and close friends to cancer and all are deeply grateful for the support that Macmillan gave to them and its our way of giving something back.
A Group of 28 Benwick people and friends, aged from 14 to 52 set off from Benwick on the 27th May to climb and conquer Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scarfell Pike (England) and Snowden (Wales) the three highest peaks in the UK all within three days to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support.
Along the way we encountered thick snow in Scotland, sunshine in the Lake District and hail, rain and 70mph winds in Wales. But through it all we battled on and made it to the three summits. Some of us made all three, some two and some one, but everyone was a winner and succeeded in reaching their own goals.
There were a few tears but many laughs along the way and most importantly a great deal of money raised going towards our target of £10,000 for Macmillan.
We would like to say a great big thank you to Burton Brothers Ramsey who supported us in the event and many other local businesses and folk that made it all worthwhile.
