Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page!!!

We, well Emily (in what can only be described as a moment of madness!) suggested we take on the London Marathon!  However after a quick reality check that we would only have 3 months to train for this we agreed to scale things down, stay local and do the Leeds Half Marathan......13 miles sounds much better than 26, although the thought of it is still creating regular nightmares for us all!

Please keep checking our page for updates on our training programme (we see you laughing already!).  Our first team training session is on the 7th February.....we are debating whether to make a video of this...but no promises!!

Anyway heres a bit from all of us individually about why we want to do the race....

Emily (Running name WRAGGY)......... "Leeds LINk, the project we work for is all about improving health and social care services for people in Leeds.  I want to posiitively impact on changing peoples lives for the better and raise the profile of what we do here in Leeds.  As a personal aside, I've booked a well earned rest to a sunny destination following the run so that I can recover and so training for this will also provide me with a good bikini body for the beach (well a girl can hope anyway!)"

Sharanjit (Running name SHAMEE)........ "This is a fantastic opportunity to raise some money for charity and increase awareness of Leeds LINk at the same time. It is a great personal challenge for me as someone who took up running a few months ago to get fit! Completing this race will be a huge achievement (and a miracle) both individually and as a team"

Stuart (Running name STUMAN) ...... "Whilst 13 miles does sound better than 26 miles it still sounds horrific!  I can manage 13 miles in a car without too many problems but on foot may prove a bit trickier!  My athletic prowess extends to playing darts and watching cricket so I know I’ve got a fair bit of work to do to make sure I can get round in one piece, but I am determined to complete this even if it is on my hands and knees.  To finish this half marathon will be an enormous personal achievement but more importantly, we can hopefully raise some money for a great cause in MacMillan Cancer Support.  As well as welcoming your sponsorship I am also happy for anyone to buy me a well deserved pint at the finish line on the 8th May, if I can get round before closing time!  Cheers"

Lewis (Running name LEWIS)........ "Why am I doing this? This is something I am still asking myself after nearly collapsing following a 2 minute jog to the end of the street. I’m just hoping that the atmosphere on the day, the adrenalin, and the support (or otherwise!) of my colleagues will see me through and help me to stumble and shuffle through the entire thirteen miles.  The pain and misery I am about to put myself through for the next three months will definitely be worth it to support Macmillan grants for people in Leeds living with cancer, so please dig deep and give as much as you are able for this fantastic cause"

Any money we raise will be used to support people living with cancer and their families in Leeds through the Macmillan Grants.

Why should you sponser us, what difference will the money you donate make to peoples lives???

Macmillan Grants can help with expenses like fares to and from hospital for treatment, new clothes, washing machines and other household items to help make life easier for people living with cancer and their families.  Grants are also given for items that help people with cancer continue with activities they enjoy.  For example, Macmillan Cancer Support gave a grant to a man with cancer of the larynx to help pay for a special device, so he could still enjoy swimming after his operation.

Did you know that......

£56 could pay for a Macmillan Grant that buys a liquidiser for someone who can't eat solid food as a result of their cancer or treatment.

£50 could pay for a Macmillan Grant that buys a person with cancer a microwave oven. This would help to make the preparation of food easier.

£141 could pay for a Macmillan Grant that buys new clothes for someone experiencing a change in weight or body shape while undergoing cancer treatment.

£189 could pay for a Macmillan Grant that helps a person living with cancer heat their home when they really need to.

So please dig deep and donate now, any contributon no matter how big or small will be greatly appreciated!!!
