The Ultimate 24 hour Challenge · 14 March 2009

To relieve poverty and advance the education of children of a Masonic family and, when funds permit, support other children in need.

Story

Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th of October - Dunstable Leisure Centre

"A 6 man team faces the challenge of a lifetime, just 24 hours to complete a mammoth endurance event"

The challenge:

To cover a total distance of 174.21 miles / 280.25 kilometres in 24 hours or less as a team.

This distance consists of:

To step climb 11.06 miles / 17.69 kilometres 2 x the height of Mount Everest
To run 78.65 miles / 126.57 kilometres 3 x the distance of the London Marathon
To row 84.50 miles / 135.99 kilometres 4 x the row from England to France

What’s involved per team member:

Stepping climb 1.8 miles / 4.42 kilometres
Run 13.10 miles / 21.08 kilometres
Rowing 14.08 miles / 22.66 kilometres

Total per person: 28.98 miles / 48.16 kilometres

The 6 man team is competing in this event for Parkinson's Society, Royal Masonic Trust, Alzheimer Society, Keech Cottage Hospice and National Childrens Bureau and the event is being hosted by Leisure Connections who have donated 6 free memberships to their Harpers Gym and the venue and machines for this challenge which will be held at Dunstable Leisure Centre on the 3rd / 4th of October 2009.
