The Beer Monster takes on the London Marathon That's right guys and girls after much thought I am taking on the London Marathon on the 13/04/08!! The reason is simple - to raise money for a very good cause and for those who have not heard of the charity - please read on! The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability (RHN for short) is a hospital that specialises in traumatic brain injuries incurred through accidents or strokes. The reason I chose to run for the hospital is because my dad has been a patient there for the past 6 years and here is why. Wednesday 2nd January 2002, my dad came home from work feeling a little unwell. As he worsened he had some sort of seizure and collapsed in our kitchen at home. The paramedics were called but when they arrived his brain had been starved of oxygen for far too long, which left him severly brain damaged. He now lives at the RHN and has done for the past 6 years. He doesn't know who we are (well that is debatable), he cannot communicate, walk or talk but he can breath on his own. The staff at the hospital do everything they can to ensure his life is as comfortable as possible, and this is my way of giving something back to the hospital for all the hard work they do. Obviously this is sad and very traumatic for our family, but we are just one case in hundreds that live at the hospital. The RHN are not part of the NHS, so all the fundraising they do is completely independent. Some of you may say that my target is quite a high one, but I think it is a very reasonable and achievable one, considering the amount it costs to keep a patient like my dad at the RHN each WEEK!!! Please please dig deep and sponsor me every little bit helps and please also help me by spreading the word and forwarding my page to everyone you know and get them to do the same to help me reach my target!!
