Story
On Sunday 19th September 2010 I will be running the BUPA Great North Run (13 long miles!) on behalf of my chosen charity Shift MS. My reason for choosing to support Shift MS is that one of my best friends was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis back in 2007.
SHIFT.MS was set up by a group of friends (including my friend who is now a Trustee) as a result of experiences of confronting an illness they knew so little about. Receiving charity status on 8th December 2006 shift.ms is a not-for-profit orgaisation, with funds received being used to meet the charity's objectives.
The name shift.ms was chosen to mirror our main objective;
To encourage people with MS to keep active and to shift the perception of the illness.

Shift MS is a charity and website for young adults affected by Multiple Sclerosis. Multiple Sclerosis is the most common disabling neurological condition affecting young adults. It is usually diagnosed when people are in their 20's and 30's. Around 85,000 people in the UK have MS. For some people, MS is characterised by periods of relapse and remission while for others it has a progressive pattern. For everyone it makes life unpredictable.
Why is there a need for SHIFT.MS?
Shift.ms is the only dedicated support network & charity for young adults living with MS.
SHIFT.MS aims to:
- Develop a community through www.shift.ms directed at younger people affected by MS.
- Encourage those living with MS to share, support and interact with one another.
- Create a portal, directing users to the most appropriate web pages for their needs.
- Provide a resource where those with MS can direct their friends and family to explain in a simple and understandbale way what MS is, the potential symptoms and common charcteristics.
- Increase understanding of MS in the 20's and 30's age group.
- Reach and empower our target audience through organising various events, projects and campaigns all centred around the shift.ms website.
Any support would be greatly appreciated
Many Thanks
Wish me luck (I'll need it!)...
