Great North Swim 2009 · 12 September 2009 ·

SANE is a leading national mental health charity set up in 1986 and is independent of government. SANE aims to improve the quality of life of people affected by mental illness. We provide support, information and guidance through our helpline, SANEline, Call Back service, Textcare and email support.

Story

So there's physical disability.  Usually fairly obvious, something missing or broken.  But what about when what's broken is a person's mind? It's a completely different situation which is far harder to deal with - for everyone.

In the last year 3 of my friends have had significant mental ill health. I saw what they had to go through and also what their friends and family had to go through; trying to support them when all the usual rules had been lost.  There seemed to be a general lack of support and everyone is left to muddle through.

I am swimming the GREAT NORTH SWIM, a mile in Lake Windermere on 12th September, to raise money for SANE, a charity that aims to support those with mental health issues and also their friends and family.

Given that 1 in 4 of us will suffer from mental health problems in our life, a quarter of you could consider this as an investment!

Many thanks in advance.
