On Sunday 15th July, James and I, with 3 others will commence a ride from Land's End to John O'Groats by bicycle covering 950 miles over 2 weeks. All 5 of us are riding in support of different charities; we are riding for two charities, one of them being Cure Leukaemia.
Both of us have been lifelong supporters of Aston Villa and sometimes there are those rare moments when you forget the game and realise the important things in life.
On 30th March 2012 our club captain Stiliyan Petrov, affectionately known as Stan, was diagnosed with acute Leukaemia. The week before, he played against Arsenal. Stan is 32 years of age and other than feeling tired, had no idea of the gravity of the situation. Survival rates for his age bracket are 30-40%. Since his diagnosis, Villa fans have shown their support by standing and applauding on the 19th minute. The “Support Stan” campaign has seen the football fraternity across Europe show their support for one of the gentleman of the game.
CURE LEUKAEMIA supports the Leukaemia Centre at the QE Hospital in Birmingham and funds research nurses and the development of new drugs. Through its assistance, the QE Hospital now hosts an internationally competitive haemato-oncology unit which serves one of the largest catchment areas in Europe. They are saving people’s lives which in the past would not have happened.
Thanks in advance for your support.
