On Sunday 15th July, Stuart and I, with 3 others, will commence a ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats by bicycle covering 950 miles over 2 weeks.
All 5 of us are riding in support of different charities; we are riding for two charities, one them being The Cure Parkinsons Trust, which are holding numerous coastal challenges this year to raise money.
Our mother, a founder of Grayson Thermal Systems back in 1978 and company secretary, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease 4 years ago. There have been a few high profile cases in the past including Muhammad Ali and Michael J Fox both of who are sufferers; however, until you witness this disease first-hand, it is hard to appreciate its effects. The degeneration and removal of independence for the patient is massively disturbing for their family and friends.
CURE PARKINSON’s was founded in 2005 by sufferers of the disease and their specific aim is to raise money to fund and facilitate research into finding a cure for Parkinson’s. Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition: people with Parkinson’s don’t have enough of a chemical called dopamine because some nerve cells in their brains have died. Without dopamine, movements become slower. Parkinson’s doesn’t directly cause people to die but symptoms get progressively worse over time severely hindering life quality.
We are hoping to raise £5,000 for CURE PARKINSON's.
Thank you in advance for your support.
