I eat far too much chocolate. Sometimes I give it up for Lent. This year, I'm giving it up for 'Lent and a half', in recognition of the famous 'glass and a half' . So that's the challenge. Lent is 46 days, so 'Lent and a half' is 69 days. That means from 1st February 2009 until Easter Sunday, 11th April 2009, no chocolate (or chocolate cake, or chocolate desserts) will pass my lips!
I'm doing this for a charity (and a cause) you may never have heard of. I first read about 21st century slavery in this National Geographic article. Most people think that slavery was a 19th century problem, long since eradicated. Not so. According to National Geographic 'There are more slaves today than were seized from Africa in four centuries of the trans-Atlantic slave trade. The modern commerce in humans rivals illegal drug trafficking in its global reach—and in the destruction of lives.' Anti Slavery International is the leading Anti Slavery charity, seeking to eradicate modern-day slavery in our lifetimes.
