North London Hospice supports more than 3,500 people with a life-limiting illness each year in the communities of Barnet, Enfield, and Haringey. Established in 1984, we are committed to empowering our patients through our vision which is to provide the best of life, at the end of life, for everyone.

Story

WE DID IT!

Of 7885 riders 7242 finished before the 17.30 cut off. That means 643 didn't make it. We did. And it was amazing.

Our positions and times were:

KISNER DARREN - 6156 - 09h 16' 55"
MORRIS DAVID - 7086 - 10h 03' 15"
GREENSITE JOEL - 7154 - 10h 08' 11" To view some quality action snaps of us visit www.maindruphoto.com. Select L'Etape Du Tour 2005 and enter our race numbers (David 3016, Joel 3017, Darren 3018). I am writing a full race report and that, along with some pictures, will appear on the blog soon. www.letapedutour.org.uk Thank you for supporting the North London Hospice. We hit the £3000 target and its still going! ************************************************ On the 11th July 2005 we will be cycling 179km through the Pyrenees. With 8500 other riders we will be participating in L'Etape du Tour. What is it? - L'Etape du Tour (or the 'etape') is a classic annual event that gives amateurs the chance to ride a stage of the Tour de France with all the trimmings of the professional road race. The selected route is a mountain stage of the tour that the pros will be riding the following week. We have decided to raise money for the North London Hospice. The hospice provides care and support for people with terminal and chronic illnesses. Patients are cared for at home or in the hospice's in-patient unit. All the services provided by the North London Hospice are free and the majority of it's income is derived from voluntary giving and fundraising. We hope our gruelling day in the mountains motivates you to make a donation to the North London Hospice. And it will be gruelling. We must ride the 179km with a minimum average speed of 19km per hour (giving us less than 9.5 hours). Any slower and the 'broom wagon' sweeps you up and drives you to the finish line. With mountain climbs of up to 18km and gradients up to 13% it won't be easy. ************************************************ Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: North London Hospice will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Thank you ************************************************ To keep up-to-date with our training and to read about our experiences on the big day have a look at our blog - www.letapedutour.org.uk
