Story
Friends, Romans, countrymen (and women), lend me your ears!
I'm hoping to take part in the Barry Sheene Memorial Motorcycle Challenge 2010, this July, as it is a great opportunity for me to raise much needed money for CLIC-Sargent, the UK's leading children's cancer charity. I want to do my bit to support them in helping children, young people and their families deal with cancer.
The Challenge is a journey of over 1700 miles (spread over 10 days), through Sweden, Denmark and Germany. We will be visiting the race circuits of Anderstorp (where Barry won his last Grand Prix in 1981), Vinberg, Knutstorp, Lausitzring and ending at Sachsenring for the 2010 German GP.
I found a leaflet advertising the Challenge in a magazine and thought it would be a rewarding (and amazing!) thing to do. I would be raising money for a very important charity by doing something I thoroughly enjoy; riding my bike!
£1.50 puts cancer and leukaemia into words that young people can understand, in a set of 3 colourful storybooks written especially for children under 10.
£5 could buy some finger puppets which will help a CLIC-Sargent Play Specialist to explain treatment to young children in a gentle way, helping them to understand and better cope with treatment.
£10 provides parents with CLIC-Sargent's 'Little Denim Book'. Many parents find this filofax indispensable as it contains useful hospital info , charts for blood counts and space to record other key facts about a child's treatment.
£20 helps buy several blood sample kits that CLIC-Sargent nurses can use on a home visit, saving a family making a round-trip to hospital for a simple blood test.
My goal is to raise a minimum of £2650 and I can't achieve this without your help. For every £1 that is donated, the governement will give 28p to CLIC-Sargent, via a tax scheme called Gift Aid.
