Life Cycle 4: The four corners of Great Britain · 15 August 2014 to 30 August 2014 ·

We perform pioneering research into genetic abnormalities of brain tumours, novel imaging techniques & drug delivery. We also excel in diagnosis, innovative treatment & raising awareness. Additional funding will enable crucial advances to be made in understanding & treating childhood brain tumours.

Story

I am riding 1400 miles in honour of Katy Holmes. Katy was diagnosed with a brain tumor - a diffuse pontine glioma - in 2011 and died within 3 months of her diagnosis, she was only 10 years old. Her parents worked tirelessly while she was alive to raise funds to seek a cure and since her passing have continued to raise money for the research and treatment of children's brain tumours through the Katy Holmes Trust http://www.katyholmestrust.co.uk/ . Worldwide, over 30,000 children each year are diagnosed with cancer of the brain or central nervous system. In the UK, brain tumours are the largest cause of children’s cancer deaths, yet only 2% of cancer research funding has been focussed on this area. While good progress is being made in diagnosing earlier and improving survival rates there is so much more that needs to be done to tackle this disease and more funds are required to enable this to happen. So I’m cycling to raise money for more research to help speed up diagnosis, get new and better treatments into clinics faster and help more children and their families deal with such a devastating illness. Your sponsorship will make a difference to children and families now who are dealing with diagnosis and treatment and to those in the future who will face what many of us cannot imagine, a threat to the life of their child. Thank you for supporting me in any way you can.
