RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.

Story

After traveling through France last summer it seemed like a good idea to see a bit more of the country, on a bike. It was on the way home, through France, that the idea of the Ligne de France was born. Never mind touring all round France, that might be a bit much and take a bit long, so why not go straight across. More or less a straight line, top left (Roscoff) to bottom right (Nice), including a few mountain climbs and then Mt Ventoux! It all adds up to just over 1000 miles. A bit like Land’s End - John O’Groats, but more manly.

When picking a charity, one came to mind straight away, the RNLI.  Mostly as being a sailor/surfer there’s a good chance they’ll end up saving me in some manner. I like to support them so they can continue their excellent work day to day patrolling beaches and risking their lives in saving others.
