Leeds Half Marathon 2009 · 10 May 2009 ·

Refugee Action provides direct support to people seeking safety in the UK, as well as campaigning for their rights. Our vision is that refugees and people seeking asylum will be welcome in the UK. They will get justice, live free of poverty and be able to successfully rebuild their lives.

Story

As you may have noticed, I have not been my usual night owl, wine quaffing, cigarette smoking self as of late. This is because I am in training for the LEEDS HALF MARATHON on 10th May 2009. I had to put that in upper case as I'm still in shock myself. I am running for REFUGEE ACTION. More info: http://www.refugee-action.org.uk/campaigns/destitution/TrueStories.aspx

Despite what the papers may say: many of our clients have no access to public funds including; benefits, NHS support, housing or legal representation. Refused asylum seekers who can't return home usually because it's not safe are not allowed to work and frequently sleep rough. They come into our offices, many are distressed, many with urgent physical and/or mental health issues. Some women have small children; some have been raped or physically abused. All are destitute and fleeing persecution from countries where their human rights have been violated. More info: http://stillhumanstillhere.wordpress.com/

I understand that money is tight at the mo but please make my intense training worth the effort. Come on, dig deep and support me, support people in need.

Your contributions will help me run like Forest Gump on the day!

However small your donation, it will be greatly appreciated.
Below are some examples of how your donations will help:

£5 can provide travel for a destitute asylum seeker to travel to a homeless hostel

£25 can help provide five food parcels for destitute asylum seekers

£40 can help pay for shelter for a particularly vulnerable refused asylum seeker with no means of support and no permit to work

To donate please go to http://www.justgiving.com/lillatan
Alternatively you could Facebook, Twitter, e-mail, call or fax me and I will add your donations onto my sponsor form.

Thank you for your support.
Love,
Lilla. xxx

I endeavour to run all the way round the course.

I endeavour never to smoke again now that I've stopped for over 3 months.

I aim to complete the thirteen miles in under 2 hours.

I aim to be at the pub in the evening.

I will inform you of my finish time.

I will not be doing a lap of honour if I achieve my goal!

Thanks for your support.
