Story

This summer I will be travelling to Belarus to volunteer with the Chernobyl Children's Project, (http://www.chernobyl-children.org.uk/) a charity that provides recouperative holidays and holiday camps for children living in areas of the country effected by the radiation still contaminating the land and water 25 years after the Chernobyl disaster.

The children live in orphanages and care homes in the Gomel region of the country. Many have severe disabilities and/or learning difficulties, some have had cancer from the radiation.

I will be spending 10 days in a sanatorium in an area of the region that is uncontaminated. The sanatoriums provide treatments for the children to extend their life expectacy, and the volunteers (of which I will be one) provide interaction, fun and activities to enrich these children's lives who have very little.

I will be (injury permitting) taking part in a duathlon in June, and running several events (including a Zumbathon) to raise money for the charity, so that more children can be provided with something fantastic in their lives.

If you can spare a few pennies to help me towards my target, I would be more than grateful.

Thanks, Linz x
