Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Hi everyone. I have decided to sponsor my weightloss campaign in order to raise money for Invest in M.E. Their goal is to establish a UK centre for bio medical M.E research and treatment, based at the university of East Anglia in Norwich UK.

There are around 250,000 M.E. (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis also misleadingly known as post viral and chronic fatigue syndrome) sufferers in the UK including many children and teens, up to 25% of the total figure are severly affected.

The most common symptom of ME is post-exertional exhaustion. This is not just feeling tired, but exhaustion that can be so debilitating you cannot turn over in bed or reach out for a drink. A sufferer can become severely ill after carrying out the most basic of mental or physical tasks-the effects of which can be felt for days or even weeks.

Other symptoms  experianced by an ME sufferer are varied. Those I have experianced include muscle and neuropathic pain, headaches, poor concentration, memory loss, clumsiness, 'jelly' legs, palpitations, and a poor sleep pattern.

ME is a fluctuating condition. The serverity of these and other symptoms can vary during any given day, week or month, and sufferers may find themselves experiancing a remission or relapse at any time.

I was diagnosed with ME in 1997 and many of you will know the battle I continually face and how it has affects my life, and that of my family too. Although I have found 'The Perrin Technique' has been of great help to me, there is still a long way to go to find the cause of ME, and for an effective treatment to be available to every sufferer.

As an illness ME is much misunderstood and neglected. More research is urgently needed, as well as increased awareness and understanding by the Government, media and medical profession.

I am aiming to lose 20lbs by October 2012. It is very difficult to lose weight while you are severely limited in the amount you can exercise,  so please do not underestimate this challenge!

It will be a great incentive to know that my family and friends are supporting me in this and helping in raising funds for a much needed research centre.

Thank you for your support, it is greatly appreciated and means a lot to me and thousands of sufferers and their families. Please donate or pledge as much as you can, every little helps as they say
