In celebration of International Awareness Day (25th Spetember), Ataxia introduced  the Wheely Wobbly Walk.

Who are Ataxia ?

Ataxia is the national charity for people affected by ataxia. They provide unique services and support, including a dedicated helpline and advocacy service; events and conferences where people can meet and share information; welfare grants; a quarterly magazine; a website with lots of information and a discussion forum; publications, films, and reports. In the last five years they have spent over £3 million on research into possible treatments and cures for ataxia. It's vision is a world without ataxia and, with the help of some brilliant supporters, they are working towards this every day.

What is Ataxia?

Ataxia is a type of neurological condition that affects balance, speech, and co-ordination. Ataxia is progressive, meaning it gets worse with time, until people become entirely dependent on others for all their needs. Over 10,000 people in the have ataxia and there is currently no cure.

What is a Wheely Wobbly Walk?

The Wheely Wobbly Walks are a fun event for everyone, whether walking independently, with a mobility aid or in a wheelchair. People taking part can walk, run, wheel or wobble for any distance they choose, and raise money for Ataxia .
This year there are Wheely Wobbly Walks taking place all across the , from to . Last year Ataxia UK managed to raise £5,000 and this year they are hoping to raise even more.

My life with Ataxia

I was diagnosed with Friedreichs Ataxia in 1999 and the last 10 years has been an enormous challenge for me and my family, as we have learnt to come to terms with my disability. In order to raise awareness of Ataxia my family and I are all taking part in this years walk and we would be really grateful if you could make a donation to Ataxia .
