Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.
Welcome to my page everyone... I want to first explain to you why I am interested in running the New York Marathon because I know people think I am crazy.
On 11th February this year my Grandfather passed away after suffering a short battle of cancer. On 3rd June 2007 he went to the doctors as he was passing blood in his water and was told the words everybody dreads- that he had cancer of the bladder. At first they were positive and said that if it was contained in the bladder then he would have a good chance of fighting it...afterall he was fit, healthy and very strong minded.
They started treatment right away and he went through chemotherapy in not too much discomfort. Then on 5th January he had his bladder removed as the chemotherapy had stopped the cancer from spreading but not shrunk it. He came out of the operation and was fighting fit considering. He was positive all the while and every day was getting stronger. He then started to feel pain in his lower back and was told that unfortunatly the cancer had spread to his spine and part of his liver. Then from there he went rapidly downhill. The cancer was on a rampage through his body and caused his kidneys to shut down. The family had to make the decision for the doctors to withdraw care and he fought it right till his last breath.
Feeling defeated and annoyed that once again this dreadful disease had caused our family pain and suffering, I decided to challenge myself and run the New York Marathon in aid of the Bob Champion Charity as this is the charity that researches new ways of trying to prevent cancer of the bladder.
Im taking part in the marathon the day after my 21st birthday and can safely say il be one of the only ones celebrating my 21st at a non-alcoholic pasta party!
