little-minch-challenge
As you can see from the selection of photos on the left of this page we successfully completed our challenge!!!
We saw a break in the weather and went for it on Tuesday the 13th of July. It was a long and gruelling day but the weather was certainly kind to us! The run was fairly straight forward but an 8hr paddle in strong currents followed by a 50km cycle up some of the Western Isles steepest inclines certainly pushed us to the max!
We completed the challenge in 14hrs! Thanks a lot to those who were there to greet us. Also a huge thanks to our support team of Johnny, Malcolm, Alan and Trevor.
As you can see we have raised a fantastic £5000 on-line along with with a few thousand more off-line. Thank you all so much for donating, we have been overwhelmed with everyone's generosity!
15km Run followed by a 35km Kayak followed by a 50km Cycle!!!
Crazy, overambitious, stupid?! Probably!!!
Q. where’s it happening? A. Skye to Lewis. (Uig to Stornoway to be more precise!)
Q. who’s involved? A. At the moment there are the three unfit and under prepared idiots that dreamt up this challenge; Andrew Inglis, Douglas Inglis and Kenneth Inglis.
But….. others have expressed an interest in taking part in some, or even all, of the challenge which is fantastic! The more the merrier! Let us know if you would like to get involved.
Q. why do the challenge? A. As I'm sure your probably aware, last year my mother Sheena, sadly lost her year long battle with brain cancer. Unfortunately brain tumour research is woefully underfunded; as a result not enough is known about its causes and effective courses of treatment. This sadly was the case for my mother. Some Facts - '16,000 people each year in the UK are diagnosed with a brain tumour' 'Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of UK children' 'More people under 40 die of a brain tumour than from any other cancer' 'Much more research is needed to discover the cause of brain tumours and to understand their behaviour' 'For brain cancer patients, five year survival is just 14%' As a family we were very shocked by how little is known about brain cancer and don't think any family should have to go through that. That's why we've decided to try and raise some much needed funds for Brain Tumour Research. Our chosen charity Brain Tumour Research require £7million per year to fund world class brain tumour research programmes and projects at UK universities where brain tumour research has been established. Please give generously towards a thoroughly deserved cause. Q. when? A. far, far too soon!
Thursday 15th July 2010, 8am start! (weather permitting!!!)
