Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
We are trying to raise money for Medical Detections Dogs by visiting as many Gromits on the Gromit trail in Bristol as possible, and taking Lola's photo on each one.
Liz has no symptoms of low blood sugar, and can drop from normal to very low in a quarter of an hour. Lola has been trained to detect when Liz's blood sugar is falling and warn her to eat something before it's too late.
Lola does this every day - and has saved Liz's life many times at night, preventing Liz becoming unconscious.
Medical Detection Dogs trains dogs for diabetics (they can also fetch supplies) and dogs to help people with Addison's disease (warning of impending attacks and getting help).
MDD are training and investigating training dogs to warn of impending pain seizures that lead to collapse and hospitalzation, dogs to warn of the prescence of allergens for people who are very severely allergic, and dogs to help people with narcolepsy.
MDD are also researchiing the ability of dogs to detect cancer.
Lola is being helped on her trail by the applications of tiny amounts of Wensleydale to her tongue...
