The 'Mad' Maldon Mud Race starts and finishes at Promenade Park in Maldon, Essex.  Competitors race across the River Blackwater at low tide, along the bank and then back across to the finish line - sounds easy! It's the deep, sticky mud that causes the problems.....people have been known to get stuck with their first step and flounder helplessly for the rest of the race! The freezing cold conditions and fancy dress will also add to the challenge!
