Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

SO I DID IT!  Please read on at the bottom of the page if you’d like to find out more….

I am going to do a sponsored walk!  I plan to walk - OK totter - around the edge of the local (flat) park 3 times.  At 1.3 km each time this is hardly marathon-like but since I couldn't even walk 2 years ago or move 2 1/2 years ago, if I manage it it will be quite an achievement for me.  So far I have managed to walk around the park once.  It took a long time, so if you are going to come and watch on the day bring a picnic and a good book!

Why do it?  Well at about the time we were choosing a school for our 11 year old it was also World Book Day.  I couldn't help but reflect how privileged we are beng able to send our children to school, or borrow books for them from the local lending library.  Others are less so, so I thought I would do something, about it. albeit rather small!

Uganda Development Services runs a "book box" scheme in the rural areas around Kamuli.  They give these book boxes (like small libraries) to schools along with books chosen by the schools themselves reflecting the Ugandan National Curriculum.  They also train teachers to run the libraries.  Each book box equipped with books and training costs £520 in total.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Uganda Development Services gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now and keep an eye on this page to follow my progress!

Thanks again

Liz

Well I ache rather and am tired, but I managed to stay uprit throuout (thanks to my helpers).  And 5 ½ hours after I started I’d finished.

In the end Saturday 4 July looked as thou it was going to be hot, albeit not as hot as it had been earlier in the week.  So, I decided to start at 9.30 and try and walk around the park twice before I stopped for lunch.  In the end, I started at 9.45 – the photo shows Alan’s watch but you’d need better eyesit than mine to see the date and time!  I managed the first round in a confident 1 hour and 10 minutes, with a few rests.  After about ¼ hour resting and chatting to a band of supporters, I did the second round in about 1 hour 35 minutes, noticeably wobblier and with more stops!  Lunch took me to and refreshed I started out on the final lap.  Fortunately, it rained over lunch and we all sheltered under the bandstand but it was lovely again for the last round.  This was even slower still at 1 ¾ hours, with even more stops and rests on strategically located park benches, but I finally finished at .

Boy I needed that seat and that cup of tea – but it was really worth it.  I feel a great sense of achievement and thanks to all my sponsors and supporters on the day we are able to give book boxes to Ugandan Schoolchildren.  I can’t tell you exactly how many, because I am still collecting money, but it will be about 6.  Thank you again for your help – it was really worth it.  So, if you were waiting to see if I did it before you sponsored me………

Thank you.

Liz
